Chris J. Gonzalez
PhD, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor
I am the founding Program Director of the Lipscomb University Marriage and Family Therapy Master’s Program and have been a professor at Lipscomb University since 2010. I completed a Ph.D. in Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota and earned a M.MFT in Marital and Family Therapy at the Abilene Christian University. I have been licensed as a marriage and family therapist since 2006. I am also an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Clinical Fellow. In addition to my clinical work, I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor which indicates the highest level of training. I spend a portion of my private practice supervising emerging therapists toward licensure.
CLINICAL FOCUS:
While I have spent my career as a generalist, more recently I have focused my areas of clinical interest at the intersection of mental health, spirituality, and relationships. My focus is on anxiety, depression, and PTSD where these intersect church hurt, toxic faith, spiritual abuse, religious trauma, and faith deconstruction in individuals, couples, and families.
VOCATION:
The purpose of my life is "to heal and to heal." What this means is that I am always in the process of healing and growth myself while also having the privilege to participate in the healing and growth of others. My practice of therapy, supervision, and training are all an expression of this purpose statement.
